Thunder and Mushrooms and Ancient Magical Breathwork, oh my!

Business first: Upcoming Live Chat dates are August 17th and September 28th, both at 2pm EDT, so put those on your calendar!

How to cite this video: Kristin Mathis. "Zeus Keraunios Live Chat Discussion with Subscribers." Mysteria Mundi (blog), Substack, July 13, 2025.

Ooh this was good stuff! Ancient breath work and magical star-traveling techniques, some pretty heavy/dense unpacking of pre-Socratic ideas of the origins of the cosmos, and how lightning connects to mushrooms, snakes, and the underworld.

Most importantly, perhaps, we talked about how Orphic conceptions of Zeus offer us new frameworks for understanding Him apart from the more mainstream Greek mythological frameworks that rely on tropes of rape and sexual conquest. By contrast, Orphic understandings of Zeus Keraunios invoke weather imagery, plant dissemination, and rhizomatic networks.

Full summary, resources, links, etc. below. First, if you haven’t already, read my new translation of the hymn.
